Our associate research scientist, Dr. Prabesh Bhattarai, was recently featured on the Research Renaissance podcast, where he spoke with host Deborah Westphal about how regenerative biology could open new doors for Alzheimer’s treatment. Dr. Bhattarai discussed how zebrafish are able to regenerate neurons lost to Alzheimer’s-like damage and why humans and mice can’t do the same. The conversation covered the role of signaling molecules like IL-4 and BDNF in brain regeneration, how astrocytes and the blood-brain barrier factor into Alzheimer’s pathology, using single-cell and spatial transcriptomics to understand brain cell function, and the search for early biomarkers to enable earlier intervention.
