We are glad to be part of this amazing story published today in Science Advances, where functional ramifications of sequential neurogenesis in zebrafish habenula was published by Emre Yaksi Lab in NTNU, Norway. Congrats to all authors! https://advances.sciencemag.org/content/6/36/eaaz3173
Our new review published in Glia
Our open-access review on the comparative aspects of glia in zebrafish and mammals is out at Glia. Big thanks to our institutes and funding agencies for their support. https://doi.org/10.1002/glia.23849
Our single cell sequencing protocol published in STAR Protocols
We are delighted to share our protocol on how to dissect zebrafish telencephalon for single cell sequencing: https://star-protocols.cell.com/protocols/89 This is based on our original research in Cell Reports in 2019 by Cosacak et al. Cosacak, M.I., Bhattarai, P., Reinhardt, S., Petzold, A., Dahl, A., Zhang, Y., and Kizil, C. (2019). Single-cell transcriptomics analyses of neural stem …

First spin-off of DZNE from Kizil Lab
A joint spin-off of the DZNE and the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF), providing technology for drug development: Neuron D GmbH (www.neurond.de) https://www.dzne.de/en/research/projects/neuron-d/ https://p573452.webspaceconfig.de/videos/neurond_by_dzne.mp4
Kizil Lab tenured in DZNE
Today Kizil Lab is officially tenured at DZNE! We feel humbled upon the trust of DZNE and Helmholtz Association. We'll keep deciphering the mysteries of zebrafish coping with Alzheimer's and thrive to develop novel interventions in the human brain with what zebrafish teaches us. We thank to all former & current lab members as well …
DZNE spotlight on our publication

Our new publication: Serotonin orchestrates the neuronal regeneration in Alzheimer’s model of zebrafish brain
We are thrilled to announce our latest paper in PLoS Biology. "Neuron-glia interaction through Serotonin-BDNF-NGFR axis enables regenerative neurogenesis in Alzheimer’s model of adult zebrafish brain" Our previous research showed that zebrafish is stunning in generating new neurons in response to Alzheimer's disease. But the molecular mechanism underlying was unknown. Here we identified it! By …
World Alzheimer’s Day declaration
Tierversuche Verstehen (an initiative of major research organizations in Germany, such as Max Planck Society, Helmholtz Association, Leibniz Association, DFG, Leopoldina, Fraunhofer Institutes, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, DAAD, Wissenschaftsrat and others) issued a statement on the future of Alzheimer's disease research. Along with Prof. Chriatian Haass, Prof. Bart De Strooper, Prof. Michael Heneka, Prof. Agnes …
The role of glia in epilepsy – collaborative research published in Nature Communications
It is a pleasure to be involved in the study led by Prof. Dr. Emre Yaksi at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway. The study was published in Nature Communications and discovered that failure of glial cells in the brain triggers the epileptic seizures.
DZNE Open Day was a big success!
DZNE held an Open Day on June 30, 2019. We participated and felt the joy of interacting with public and tell them the amazing work done in DZNE as a whole! Congratulations to all!
